Common Mistakes to Avoid When Buying a Sofa
April 5, 2018
If you are planning on replacing your old ratty sofa with a brand new one that will make your room sparkle, there are some pitfalls that you need to avoid. You may be looking around and your eyes will land on your dream sofa, but you have to make sure it’s the perfect sofa for your home, too!
Before you start your sofa buying process, keep these common mistakes people make in mind so you know what to look for and how to avoid those mistakes.
Buying the Wrong Sized Sofa
One of the most common mistakes people make when buying a sofa is when they buy one that is either too big or too small for their space. It is an easy mistake to make too if you don’t do your research beforehand. People who make this mistake will see a sofa they love online or in the store, eyeball the size and think it will fit where their old sofa was. Regret falls over them when they realize their new sofa looks out of place.
To avoid this mistake, measure wall to wall where you want your new sofa to sit and find one that will fit into those diameters. Also, make sure it will fit in with the scale of your other furniture. If you are going to put your coffee table in front of it, make sure you can comfortably reach the table by purchasing a couch that isn’t too high or too low.
Buying the Wrong Style of Sofa
When you buy a new sofa, it should fit in with the style of your overall room. If you have other furniture in your room and your new sofa doesn’t fit in aesthetically, it will turn into an eyesore that you will eventually end up hating.
When you are looking for a new sofa, look carefully at how it’s designed and built. Bring photos of your room with you to the showroom to picture how each sofa you are looking at will fit into your room.
Not Testing out the Sofa Before You Buy It
We wouldn’t be mentioning this mistake if nobody did it. Unfortunately, a few people have made the mistake of not trying out the sofa before they bought it. This includes sitting on it, making sure you can sit and lay comfortably on it, and making sure you can stand up without exerting too much force. Also make sure the cushions are to your liking, whether you like firm or soft cushions.
Buying a Poor Quality Sofa
One of the worst mistakes people can make is buying a poor quality sofa. You may like how the sofa feels in the showroom, but if it rips or loses its shape within the first two months, you will end up pay a lot more money in the long run.
